Paolo Rossi proved his mark in the World Cup 1982 held in Spain. The Italian striker showed a spectacular display in this event. The tournament did not start in the desired way for the Italy team. They could score only two goals in the group stage. They progressed further as they scored more goals than Cameroon.
In the next stage Italy found themselves with Argentina and Brazil and people were not expecting much from them. They managed to narrowly defeat Argentina 2-1. But Rossi was still not finding the net. He was given the last opportunity to prove himself by Coach Enzo Bearzot in deciding game versus Brazil. The Brazilian team only required a draw for reaching semifinals. Rossi had a marvelous game and he scored a superb hat trick in 3-2 win of his side.
He continued with his fine touch in the semi final also by scoring both the goals in 2-0 win versus Poland. He scored one goal in 3-1 win against West Germany in the finals. He was also the highest goal scorer in this tournament.
